The Fraternal Order of Police Owensboro Lodge 16 voted at their February meeting to endorse Chris Castlen for Daviess County Commissioner of the West District. Castlen, an active member of Lodge 16, is a U.S. Marine and retired Owensboro Police Department lieutenant with two decades of service to his country and local community.
FOP members in attendance for the February vote included professionals from the city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Their discussion focused on Castlen’s leadership and work ethic and his long-standing commitment to the Good of the Order standards for Lodge 16.
“Brother Castlen knows the many issues facing members of Lodge 16,” said George D. Ballard, Lodge 16 president. “While endorsements are not typically made for primary races, Lodge members at the meeting expressed a belief that Brother Castlen would indeed work for the betterment of Lodge 16 when elected to the position of West County Commissioner.”
Castlen began his career as a deputy jailer with the Daviess County Detention Center and went on to join the Owensboro Police Department as a law enforcement officer. During his tenure he served the community in multiple roles including patrol, detective, sergeant and lieutenant. He was also a member of the Emergency Response Team and instructor for many divisions of the Department.
“I am deeply honored to have received the endorsement of my brothers and sisters in the FOP Lodge 16,” said Castlen. “Public Safety is one of the cornerstones of our community, and as the candidate endorsed by our local law enforcement, I pledge to protect and support their interests as they protect and serve our community daily.”
Castlen retired from the OPD in 2017 and embarked on a second career at Owensboro Health in human resources. He remains an active member of the Marine Corps League, Fraternal Order of Police and Kentucky Law Enforcement Assistance Program. He lives in Owensboro with his wife of 25 years, Stacy, and their three daughters.
The upcoming primary election for Daviess County is set for May 17, 2022. The general election will be Nov. 8, 2022.
