Original story — For the second day in a row, Owensboro High School received multiple consecutive phone calls from the same number that all contained a bomb threat, a district official has confirmed. Everyone in the building has been evacuated to the football and is safe. Officials said there is no reason to believe anyone is in danger so students are not being dismissed at this time, but the district is still treating the threat as if it is legitimate.
If the caller is found, school and police officials said they will likely face felony charges for terroristic threatening. The Owensboro Police Department is responding to the current incident and still investigating Wednesday’s threat.
District officials posted about the current situation on the Owensboro Public Schools Facebook Page:
Unfortunately, a few moments ago, OHS received another threat mirroring the threat from yesterday. At this time, all students and staff have evacuated the building and are safe. OPD is investigating and we hope to return to class soon. Students are not being dismissed at this time. There is no reason to believe anyone is in danger, but we must treat this situation as if it is legitimate. It is important to understand that once the individual responsible is found, they will be facing several felony charges for terroristic threatening. We will update as the situation develops.
According to Owensboro Public Schools Public Information Officer Jared Revlett, the situation is nearly identical to the one that unfolded Wednesday, but there were four or five calls Thursday morning versus three the day before.
Wednesday’s threat were found to not be legitimate. OPD led an investigation that lasted several hours and included multiple sweeps of the building, but no suspicious packages were found according to OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess.
