DCSO: Maceo man facing numerous charges after leading police on pursuit Saturday

A 29-year-old Maceo man, Garry J. Neal, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and is facing numerous charges after he reportedly led police on a lengthy pursuit on Saturday, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. 

According to DCSO, Neal is facing the following charges:

  • Complaint warrant for TBUT/shoplifting $1,000<$10,000 
  • Indictment warrant for failure to or improper signal, driving on DUI suspended license (first offense), and trafficking in a controlled substance (first offense, carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives)
  • 3 failure to appear warrants out of Daviess District and Circuit Courts 
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance, second offense (aggravated circumstances) 
  • 4 counts of wanton endangerment 
  • Reckless driving 
  • 2 counts of improper passing 
  • Fleeing or evading police, first degree (vehicle) 
  • Fleeing or evading police, first degree (on foot) 
  • Failure to produce insurance card 
  • No registration receipt 
  • No registration plates 
  • Criminal mischief, first degree
  • Criminal mischief, third degree
  • Driving on a DUI suspended license, second offense (aggravated circumstances) 
  • Possession of controlled substance, second offense (methamphetamine) 
  • Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

According to a DCSO release, Central Dispatch received a complaint of a male subject, later identified as Neal, that appeared to be passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of US 231 and Burton Road.

After crews arrived, the subject woke up and made eye contact with the DCSO Deputy and fled the scene, according to the DCSO report. 

According to DCSO, the suspect was traveling northbound on US 231 and when approaching the 5000 block, another Deputy took over the pursuit. The pursuit reportedly covered several miles of roadway to include US 231, Southeastern Parkway, Scotty Lane, Fairview Drive, Old Hartford Road, back on US 231, KY 764, back on US 231, Crane Pond Road, KY 762, KY 54, and Ward Rd. 

According to the release, the suspect vehicle was traveling too fast when approaching the intersection of Ward Road and KY 764 and went straight ahead into a driveway in the 9900 block of KY 764. The suspect reportedly continued on and struck a 16×20-foot trailer, and due to the damage and heavy mud the vehicle became stuck. 

The suspect then fled on foot, with the deputy and a Kentucky State Police Trooper continuing to follow, according to the release. The subject was reportedly taken into custody in a field behind some residences.

Neal, who was not injured in the accident, was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for medical clearance, and then lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
