As the winter weather storm progresses, this story will be updated with road closures, outages, wrecks and more as information becomes available.


7:53 p.m. — from Kenergy

Outage update as of 7:45 PM. 139 outages affecting 5,610 members. By County: Caldwell – 787, Crittenden – 221, Daviess 202, Hancock – 36, Henderson- 1054, Hopkins -1996, Lyon- 333, McLean-44, Ohio-48, Union-33, Webster-460.

Crews plan to work until 10:00 PM this evening. Becoming too hazardous with road conditions, etc…If you view outage map and do not see a hard hat icon in your area, chances are you will not have power restored tonight! Restoration services will continue Friday morning around 7:00 AM.


4:07 p.m. — from Daviess County EMA

The following roads are closed due to high water:

Central: Sutherland Rd., Deserter Creek Rd., Redhill Maxwell Rd. and Boston Laffoon Rd.

West: Lyddane Bridge Rd. S.


4:04 p.m. — from Kenergy

Update on outages as of 4:00 PM. 145 total outages affecting 7,025 members. By county: Caldwell – 801, Crittenden – 107, Daviess – 671, Henderson – 605, Hopkins – 2,249, Lyon – 334, McLean – 246, Union – 134, Webster – 1,052, Ohio – 41.

The Daviess County number was up over 130 members from 2:30 p.m.


2:38 p.m. — from OMU

Power has been restored to customers in the area from Ford Avenue to 11th Street; from Bittel Road to Allen Street.

This means there are no outages in OMU’s customers.


2:11 p.m. — from Owensboro Police Department

OPD reported seeing power outages affecting the street lights on Frederica Street and Parrish Avenue. OPD recommends cautious driving along the roads while the storm potentially deteriorates the road conditions.


1:51 p.m. — from OMU

Approximately 1,010 customers in the central part of Owensboro from Ford Avenue to 11th Street; from Bittel Road to Allen Street are without power. Crews are currently investigating and working to restore power. Click here to see the outage map.


1:32 p.m. — from Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King

Crews enroute to a wreck on US 60 near the (231) Natcher Bridge. It’s believed to be a single vehicle, non-injury. Use caution traveling that way. Watch for crews and expect the formation of ice

  • 1:42 p.m. — Medics enroute to a deputy who wrecked responding to the [above] wreck. Caution if you’re traveling US 60 by-pass around the 22 mile-marker. Please avoid unnecessary travel

1:30 p.m. — from OMU

12:27 p.m. — from Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King

Single vehicle wreck on the Audubon Parkway in Daviess Co near the Green River Bridge. Believe it’s a non-injury. Crews enroute.


12:21 p.m. — from Kenergy

Outage in Daviess Co. affecting 459 members. Crews on site. Restoration timetable TBD.

11:31 a.m. — from Daviess County Fiscal Court and Trooper Corey King

King and the Fiscal Court went live on Facebook Thursday morning to give preparation tips.

King was in Southern Daviess County and noted on several drives throughout the county that the roads are starting to transition from just wet conditions to shoulders freezing over. It’s projected that Thursday’s evening commute and Friday morning’s commute will be different than Thursday morning’s commute.

Troopers are set for any incidents. King advises drivers to have jumper cables, gloves, sock caps, blankets, phone charger and an extra amount of gas in cars to be prepared for any situation.

King said they have already seen some slide-offs and some fallen branches as well. They are seeing some branches fall onto roads throughout the county as well.

11:27 a.m. from Owensboro Municipal Utilities

Power has been restored to those affected by the outage in the “Poet Section.”


11:15 a.m. — from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

These are routes currently blocked due to high water in District 2. There are likely others that will rise and fall quickly without making it into our report. Please do not drive through flooded sections of roads. Signs have been posted.

  • KY 298 is Open with high water at MP 2 – MP 3
  • KY 142 is Open with high water at MP 4 – MP 5
  • KY 762 is Open with high water at MP 0 to MP 3
  • KY 279 is Open with high water at MP 2 – MP 4

10:17 a.m. — from Kenergy

Overall system update as of 10:14 am. There are 18 outages affecting 1,229 members. Outages by county: Caldwell – 441, Hopkins – 347, Webster – 308, Union – 100, Lyon – 23, Henderson – 7, Daviess – 1.

10:11 a.m. — from Owensboro Municipal Utilities

Approximately 120 customers are without power in the “Poet Section”. Crews are on site working to restore power.


9:55 a.m. — from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Barry Smith said road conditions weren’t too bad to start the morning, but the freezing rain will coat roads with ice throughout the day. County officials urge people to not get out if possible.
