Mark E. Griffith, a 58-year-old Owensboro man, has been charged by the Owensboro Police Department with the murder of Shannon Michelle Buchler. Griffith is facing additional charges for the Jan. 26 shooting, which also sent a female juvenile to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
In addition to murder, Griffith was charged with first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He was arrested and is being held at the Daviess County Detention Center.
According to a release, at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Jan. 26 OPD responded to the 100 block of E. 25th Street for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a female who had died from a gunshot wound, as well as the other two victims.
The person who shot and killed was identified on Jan. 28 as Buchler, a 49-year-old woman of Owensboro. At that time, a juvenile female and adult male were still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds. The juvenile was still hospitalized as of Wednesday.
According to OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess, detectives believe Griffith shot Buchler (who Boggess said was a significant other of Griffith), before shooting the juvenile and then himself.
Detectives believe this incident was a domestic disturbance and is not related to any other recent shooting, and that there is also no current threat to the public.
Detectives continue to investigate and anyone with additional information can call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
