A 22-year-old Hawesville man is facing several charges after traveling nearly 100 mph in a 55 mph zone and attempting to evade police in a vehicle that was reported stolen, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Devin Woosley faces the following charges for the incident: fleeing or evading police (first degree — motor vehicle); reckless driving; speeding; wanton endangerment (police officer); receiving stolen property; resisting arrest; driving on DUI suspended license; criminal mischief; and two unrelated arrest warrants.
According to a release, at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday a DCSO deputy clocked a Chevrolet HHR traveling 96 mph in a 55 mph zone in the 10000 block of KY 144. The driver pulled into a driveway and exited the vehicle but quickly jumped back in and fled at a high rate of speed, according to DCSO.
The deputy did not pursue the vehicle “for the safety of the other motorists,” according to the release. A short time later, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office notified DCSO that the Chevrolet HHR had been reported stolen out of Hancock County.
DCSO deputies continued to check the area and located the suspect walking on Stump Newman Road. According to DCSO, deputies attempted to place the suspect into custody but he physically resisted arrest. The suspect was able to be brought under control and placed into custody.
The stolen vehicle was located and recovered a short time later by DCSO’s criminal investigation division and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
