At Tuesday’s Metropolitan Planning Committee meeting, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials said last week’s meeting to gather public opinion on the potential widening of Fairview Drive was a success.

KYTC Chief District Engineer Deneatra Henderson said they had more than 50 attendees during their two-hour meeting on the Fairview project.

The plan for expansion came after realizing the congestion issue on Fairview Drive. Options include expanding Fairview evenly on both sides of the road or trying to ‘weave through’ utility issues that surround the drive.

“I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout considering the circumstances … it was good to see the project team, both from the cabinet and from the consulting engineer really engaging with the attendees,” City Manager Nate Pagan said.

Before the meeting closed, MPO Coordinator Tom Lovett said that the Transportation Improvement Program made an addition to the projects listed.

The project would enhance the safety between mile markers 17.8 and 18.0 on KY 81 — a section that starts in McLean County and extends into Daviess County.

The project in total is $1.6 million, with construction totaling $1.5 million and utility moving utilities at $96,000.
