Daviess County Fiscal Court held a special meeting Wednesday to discuss a grant program regarding the widening of KY 54.
This project includes turning KY 54 into a six-lane roadway from US 60 to Ralph Avenue, and improving the four-lane roadway with a two-way left-turn median from Ralph Avenue to Thruston-Dermont Road. The commissioners are pushing for a walking and biking path along the road as well.
The project would cost a total of $30.6 million: $25 million would come from the federal government, $4.6 million from the state, and $1 million from the local government.
The resolution acknowledged support for the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (or RAISE) grant program. It further commits local funding as support for the grant application.
Other counties throughout the state can apply for the same grant.
“In Kentucky, there would be up to four of these grants … I don’t think that the money has to be allocated, we are now in competition with other projects throughout the state for that money,” Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said.
The resolution was approved unanimously.
