Tenants who qualify can now apply for rental and utility assistance through the state’s Home Eviction Relief Fund. If approved, lump-sum payments will be made directly to landlords and utility providers — covering tenants’ past-due bills dating back to April 2020 as well as three months-worth of future bills.

The Home Eviction Relief Fund is providing $264 million total in help to all Kentucky counties outside of Fayette and Jefferson. Applications will close when funds are exhausted or program funding expires.

The Relief Fund is designed to assist tenants with rent and/or utilities to keep them housed during the pandemic, allow landlords to get substantial payments for back rent, and reduce the volume of eviction cases in Kentucky courts.

A third party can help tenants apply if a tenant does not have access to a smart phone or computer, or if they are elderly or disabled. The helper will be able identify themselves and can provide contact information in case more information is needed.
