The Owensboro Police Department bomb unit safely detonated a grenade after it was found by a Daviess County resident, according to a Thursday night report from the Sheriff’s Office.
DCSO first received a call from a resident in the 3700 block of Medley Road at 5:06 p.m. The resident stated she was outside next to her patio operating a small tiller when she first heard a noise, then an object got caught up in the machine and eventually was thrown out from the patch she was tilling.
The resident described the object as a possible hand grenade.
When a deputy arrived, a photo was taken and sent to one of the Owensboro Police Department’s bomb technicians. At that point, the OPD’s bomb unit was dispatched to the scene, where the object was determined to be a hand grenade.
The bomb unit utilized the robot to retrieve the grenade and placed it into a hole which had been dug, and then detonated the grenade.
