Construction is underway for a new FiveStar Food Mart on KY 54, next to Planet Fitness.
Spokeswoman Laura Blair said the 5,000-square-foot location is projected to open in December and will have the same layout as the FiveStar on West Parrish Avenue.
“We’re always looking for new properties and once we find a location that fits our demographics, then we usually move on that,” she said. “We’re already established in Owensboro with the two locations and we’re looking to expand there.”
The KY 54 opening will make 86 locations total for the family-owned company, which has locations mainly in central and western Kentucky plus two in southern Indiana and one in Tennessee.
“We’re always excited to open a new location and meet the people,” Blair said. “Our stores are considered an essential business, so we are providing a service to the community.”
FiveStar offers grocery items and gasoline. The newest Owensboro location will be open 24 hours and may have a soft opening due to COVID-19.
“Under normal circumstances, we would have a grand opening,” she said. “Of course, there are so many unknowns (to) foresee what it might be like by then. We’ll have to make that decision as we get closer.”
