Gov. Andy Beshear announced Friday afternoon that Kentucky has its first coronavirus case. The patient resides in Lexington and is being kept in isolation at a medical facility. Though the threat is still low, Beshear filed a state of emergency in order to access federal funds.

During a Facebook Live video, Beshear said he believes the state is in a good position to deal with the coronavirus and urged the public to stay calm.

“We want to make sure we release any and all information in a way that’s transparent but does not, and should not, cause panic,” he said. “People should not adjust their daily routines other than practicing good hygiene, not going to work if they’re sick and not sending their kids to school if they’re sick.”
