Early Tuesday morning a deputy with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a suspected intoxicated driver near the intersection of Frederica Street and Fairfax Drive. Upon initiating the stop a passenger fled from the vehicle on foot through several adjacent yards.
Additional deputies, as well as officers from the Owensboro Police Department, began a search of the area and the passenger was quickly located hiding in a yard of a nearby residence. The driver identified as Heather Estes, 42, of Louisville and was arrested for driving under the influence. Passenger Jeramey Hawkins, 42, also of Louisville, was placed under a1Test for numerous outstanding warrants and drug-related items located where he was hiding.
Estes was charged with careless driving, failure to provide insurance, no registration plate, aggravated DUI (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking a controlled substance (first degree, first offense, meth). Hawkins was charged with trafficking a controlled substance (first degree, first offense, meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing or evading police and third-degree criminal trespassing.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of numerous pills, syringes and approximately 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine. A large amount of money was also seized. Both subjects were lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
