Tickets are limited for the New Beginnings Vision of Change fundraiser featuring Elizabeth Smart on August 31 at the Owensboro Convention Center.

Smart made headlines when she was abducted on June 5, 2002. Police found Smart on March 12, 2003, after being held a prisoner for nine months. Through her traumatic experience, Smart has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs, and national legislation.

This is the largest fundraiser for New Beginnings who strive to help men, women and children rise above sexual victimization. They offer free and confidential counseling services to victims and their families.

New Beginnings executive director Karla Ward said there are approximately 200 tickets left for the event. Tickets are currently on sale for $69.95 and include a plated dinner. Ticket prices will increase mid-August. The event is capped at 650 attendees.

Owensboro Health is the gold sponsor and Fraternal Order of Eagles is the silver sponsor for the event. WBKR radio personality Chad Benefield will be the emcee for the night.

After the event Smart will have a book signing at 8:30 p.m. Limited books are available so attendees are asked to bring their own.

Smart recently released a book about what it takes to overcome trauma, find the strength to move on, and reclaim one’s life. “Where There’s Hope” is the result of Smart’s mission and it is an up-close-and-personal glimpse into her healing process and a how-to guide for readers to make peace with the past and embrace the future. She will also have her New York Times best-selling book, “My Story” available.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Owensboro Convention Center Box Office at 270-687-8800.
