The 19th annual Rural Life Celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. this evening at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Stanley. The event honors the region’s agricultural roots and was inspired by the late Bishop John J. McRaith, who was deeply committed to supporting small family farms.

Bishop McRaith, known for his love of the land, established the Rural Life Committee within the Diocese of Owensboro. This initiative has been a longstanding tradition, bringing together farmers to discuss local agriculture and build community.

The celebration includes a dinner served by local FFA students, easily recognizable in their bright blue jackets. The evening will also feature the presentation of several awards.

Joanne and Martin Hayden will be honored with the Outstanding Community Service Award, Clint Hardy will receive the “Be Like Rick Award,” and the Hayden brothers will be presented with the Rising Star Award.

The event is open to the public and aims to continue fostering the sense of community and collaboration that Bishop McRaith envisioned.
