The Nonprofit Coalition of Owensboro will host 4 collaborative sessions throughout the year in an effort to strengthen area agencies’ programs and services.

Kara Howard, Vice President of Development and Community Engagement at Wendell Foster, said first session will be on February 21 at Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Tapscott Chapel. The event will bring speakers from across the Commonwealth and outside the state, and it will focus on change management and strategic planning for nonprofits.

“We put some intentional plans together for 2024. We wanted to focus on the content that everybody wanted to see and what would help them. We really wanted this content to build on each other and really provide some great information that would pertain to everybody in this room,” Howard said.

The second session on May 15 will be focused on financial analysis for nonprofit leaders. The final two sessions will be hosted in partnership with Indiana University, with one session on establishing a purposeful board and the other on fundraising strategies.

The Nonprofit Coalition of Owensboro was founded in 2021 as a partnership between Wendell Foster and Kentucky Wesleyan College. The group was organized to connect and provide nonprofit leaders with information to strengthen Owensboro’s nonprofit sector.

The sessions are possible thanks to a donation from the Marilyn & William Young Foundation.

“The Nonprofit Coalition is a prime example of productive relationships and cooperative action,” said Young Foundation Executive Director Sara Hemingway. “We value this partnership and are pleased to support their work. Our grant will allow the group to expand their offerings to local nonprofit leadership and subsequently strengthen each organization. The Young Foundation is encouraged by the growth and leadership of the Nonprofit Coalition since its formation.”
