St. Benedict’s 11th annual bed sponsorship fundraiser is underway, and Executive Director Harry Pedigo hopes to bring in more sponsorships throughout the community. Funds from a sponsorship go towards a resident’s meals, showers, laundry, housing services, and now the transition program.
Each bed sponsorship costs $500 per year. The campaign typically reaches around 200 sponsorships, which accounts for roughly 50% of the nonprofit’s budget and is critical to the organization’s success.
Donors are welcome to pay upfront or in monthly installments of approximately $41.
Since the fundraiser began, St. Benedict’s has been able to cover unforeseen expenses and renovate the shelter.
Pedigo said they have tried to keep the sponsorship price low to ensure the community can still donate.
He said his favorite part of the program is seeing the clients connect with the donors. After the donations come in, a plaque is hung in the facility listing all those who donated, which catches the attention of visitors and clients.
“The clients seeing the plaques know the community stands behind them and supports them, but also helps them see hope,” Pedigo said. “The guys know they’re not alone, which is probably my favorite thing.”
