The Green River Area Down Syndrome Association (GRADSA) will host their inaugural Poker Run at the Daviess County Fairgrounds on May 21, followed by a car show the same day.
Registration for the poker run will begin at 8:30 a.m., while registration for the car show will run from 11 a.m. to noon. Both events feature GRADSA performances, half pots, a live DJ, and $5 lunches. The car show costs $15 to enter and will run from 12 to 1 p.m., with trophies awarded to the top 25.
The poker run is a 75-mile route — which will circle through Calhoun and conclude at the fairgrounds — with cash prizes for first, second, third, and last place. Motorcycles, jeeps, and hot rods are welcome to attend by contacting GRADSA executive director Tiffany Thrash at 479-223-1234 or accessing a registration link online at GRADSA.org/donate.
In addition to raising money for the nonprofit, the event will also promote inclusion and promote the skills and abilities of the groups’ members.
“We’ll serve hot lunch, have art displays from our GRADSA art students, and will be selling our 2022 GRADSA calendars designed by our art students,” Thrash said. “We’ll have a half-pot and awards for the winners, and the cars and trucks participating in the automobile show. We’ll have GRADSA performances as well. Our first poker run is going to be something for everybody,” she said. “We love bringing the community together to support our loved ones with Down syndrome; that’s what it’s all about.”
An early-bird registration special is available through March 21, World Down Syndrome Day. Thrash said that everyone is welcome to join in on the fun and support the cause.
“The poker run will be something new for our community,” she said. “If you don’t have a motorcycle, Jeep, or hot rod, you can still join us to check out the car and truck show and grab lunch. It’s a little something for everybody.”
