The age old proverb ‘A Dog is a Man’s Best Friend’ has survived for over two hundred years. It was coined in the 1750’s by Frederick, the King of Prussia (thank you, Google) and its long life span clearly speaks of its truth in the hearts of many people. So, what happens when ‘man’ isn’t such a ‘best friend’ to his dog? What is the fate of those pets?
Rather than reflect on the impending doom in store for stray pets, Owensboro citizens took action. The Humane Society, a nonprofit no kill shelter, was created to provide a safe place for pets in search of homes. For over thirty-five years, the shelter has been saving the lives of thousands of animals. However, the need for such a service has grown and the number of volunteers has not! If you’re feeling warm and fuzzy as you consider the lives of so many pets saved; if your pup rides in the front seat of the car in your lap as you pick your kids up from school; if you have a framed picture of your pet on the wall next to your grandchildren, then then this message is for you! The Humane Society needs YOU to volunteer! Watch this entertaining video produced by Project Volunteer at www.ProjectVolunteer.org to catch a glimpse of life at the Humane Society and consider how you can help serve! Spoiler Alert: Randy Lanham does bark like a dog. Prepare to giggle!
