Civil Rights activist, Rev. Maurice “Gator” Blanchard, begins ministry with local Welcoming and Affirming Baptist Church

OWENSBORO, KY, March 11, 2021 – Rev. Maurice “Gator” Blanchard of Louisville has been called as Associate Pastor of Unity Fellowship. His work will be primarily virtual and will include both preaching and pastoral care responsibilities.

Blanchard holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He was the architect of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Affirming LGBTQ Network and currently serves as co-chair of the group. He has previously worked with the Campaign for Southern Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, and served on the Fairness Campaign Coordinating Council in Kentucky.

He and his husband, Dominique James, are both civil rights activists, perhaps best known as plaintiffs in the landmark Supreme court case that legalized same-sex marriage in the U.S. They are the proud adoptive parents of a beautiful African American boy, Josiah.

Unity Fellowship is a welcoming and Affirming congregation affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Alliance of Baptists, and the United Church of Christ. In addition to living into its core value of inclusiveness, the church hopes to increase its virtual footprint through this ministerial expansion. You can learn more about Unity Fellowship at https://unityfellowshipowb.org or its Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/UnityFellowshipOWB, which streams live worship every Sunday at 10:15.

This is a paid news release.
