Brescia University recently received a grant for a “Summer Bridge” program, which is designed to provide a supportive connector for students between high school and college. The goal of the program is to address the areas of writing, reading, mathematics, and student success skills while interweaving the interdisciplinary concept of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The University received $49,950 to bring 40 first-time full-time students to campus from July 24-August 4.

All students who register for remedial courses in math, writing, and reading comprehension in the Fall 2023 semester will receive materials regarding the Summer Bridge program in their registration program. In addition, Brescia will also support students through Counseling Services, Career Services, Campus Ministry, tutoring services, student advisement, and academic coaching, along with a food pantry and professional wardrobe available to students who are going for interviews.

“The goal of the Office of Student Success is to provide every student with the resources needed to be successful; the Summer Bridge program is a great way to begin that journey of student success,” stated Icces Crocker, Director of Student Success. “This program will create a way to plant the seeds of education and support into Brescia University’s incoming class, so they can blossom as students continue their education.”
