Charles Broughton has been named to a new position in Daviess County Public Schools, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.
Broughton, who previously served as Director of Student Services, said this new position will offer an opportunity to provide services that benefit students across the district.
“I have been fortunate to be a teacher, coach, principal, Director of Secondary Schools, and most recently Director of Student Services for DCPS over the past 24 years,” he said. “I am looking forward to this new challenge and the opportunity to best serve our students, staff and schools. I appreciate Superintendent Matt Robbins for entrusting me to take on the responsibilities of this position.”
Broughton’s responsibilities will include serving on the Superintendent’s Senior Leadership Team and leading the Student Services Leadership Team. He will also coordinate the district’s compliance with school enrollment and attendance laws and serve as custodian of all student data and records.
Additionally, Broughton will work with principals, teachers and parents/guardians in response to attendance or social/behavioral concerns. That includes the identification of potential truancy and dropout issues and implementation of steps and programs to prevent and mitigate those issues.
Other duties include providing direction and oversight over the DCPS Physical and Mental Health Programs, serving as the District Safety Coordinator, and providing further direction and oversight of the DCPS Transportation Department.
Broughton began his education career as a teacher at Daviess County High School in 1997, later serving as assistant principal at Hancock County High School. He was the principal at Apollo High School from 2010-16, then spent 5 years as DCPS Director of Secondary Schools.
Superintendent Matt Robbins said there were other strong candidates for this position, but Broughton’s background and experience were an outstanding fit for this role.
“Mr. Broughton has demonstrated high levels of success and achievement throughout his career and will bring that same commitment to excellence to this critical district leadership role,” Robbins said. “Mr. Broughton will continue to provide a strong element of support to our schools. The pillars of our strategic plan are Learning, Safety, Excellence, Communications, and Teamwork. It is my belief that Mr. Broughton best exemplifies the skills necessary to help lead us forward as we maximize our district resources to put our Kids First.”
