A new choice for education is coming to Owensboro by way of Highlands Latin School Owensboro. The classical, Christian, traditional private school will begin classes in the Fall of 2023.
The school will initially serve kindergarten through 3rd grade with plans to add a grade each subsequent year. Situated in Lewis Lane Baptist Church, the school will follow a four-day school week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
“The school will be a model of the Highlands Latin School in Louisville that has existed for over 20 years and has excelled in both academic and Christian education,” said school director Charlotte Burton. “The Highlands Latin School uses the Memoria Press Classical Christian Curriculum, which has proven successful in private schools and homeschoolers across the country.”
The school will teach phonics, reading, spelling, print and cursive handwriting, arithmetic, geography, history, science, music, art, physical education, and Christian studies. Highlands will also introduce students to a Latin curriculum beginning in 2nd grade.
“Latin helps to develop the minds of students further and helps students to gain a better understanding of English language and grammar,” Burton said.
Highlands will have an open house on January 8 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Lewis Lane Baptist Church for families interested in learning more about the school. Additional information is available on the school’s website here, by searching Highlands Latin School Owensboro on social media, or by calling its office at 270-903-2211.
“The goal of the school is to provide students with a classical education of the highest quality through teaching a well-established proven curriculum,” Burton said. “We are excited to provide families in our community another option for their children’s education.”
