Grace Christian Academy is again growing their number of high school students by now offering classes in grades 9-11. In addition, this year GCA is also adding a preschool and kindergarten program. The school is holding an open house on July 22 for families interested in any high school grade level or the new program for young learners.
The open house will include a school tours, refreshments, and a Q&A, also allowing families to meet the staff and faculty. The school still uses the facilities at Yellow Creek Baptist Church (5741 KY 144) but is looking into moving to their own building. More information about GCA can be found on their website here.
GCA opened in 2020 and for 2 years has educated high school students using a faith-based curriculum and a Christian worldview. This year the high school will serve freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
“As GCA begins its third year of operation, we continue to be humbled by God’s sustaining grace that enables us to fulfill our mission,” said Chris Holmes, head of school for GCA. “Not only are we excited about starting our junior class and meeting new students and faculty, but we are also grateful to see God at work in the spiritual lives of our students, maturing them for current and future opportunities of service.”
David Hawes, GCA board member, said “GCA has set high academic standards for students. Recent admissions testing has already shown the success in the academic efforts for GCA students.”
The curriculum for preschool and kindergarten will also be faith-based. Officials said classical learning is key, and there will be a focus placed on multi-sensory education. Social skills will be taught through play and team activities.
Preschool will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday, with kindergarten running from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday-Friday. The classes will be limited to 15 students.
“GCA is very excited to begin our elementary school and to point children and their families to the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ,” Holmes said. “While we want to be distinctive with unique and creative opportunities for our students, our school will still convey a traditional, faithful classroom experience. We are eager to see how God will bless this endeavor to build an enduring and vibrant ministry that will benefit this community.”
Hannah Goebel will serve as the elementary administrator and kindergarten teacher, while Natalie Tanner will be teaching the preschool class.
“It is an exciting time in the history of GCA as the school expands to educate the littles,” Goebel said. “The vision is to begin instilling into the pre-K and kindergarten students a Christian worldview as well as the standard letters and numbers. Additionally, because we are keeping the class size small, we have an opportunity to use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.”
