Jeremy Camron, principal of Owensboro Day Treatment, was presented the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) 2022 Administrator of the Year “Spirit of a Leader” Award earlier this week. The award recognizes school administrators who have made outstanding educational contributions in Kentucky’s public schools through exceptional leadership and service to the association.

Camron was chosen as recipient by a statewide judging panel of KASA member representatives. Camron received the award during the KASA Annual Leadership Institute on Wednesday, July 27 at The Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky.

Camron’s nomination noted his many contributions to KASA during his 5 years of membership. He has served on the membership committee, with his final year as chairman, during which time KASA achieved a record level of membership. He is currently a member of the diversity, equity and inclusion committee and represents alternative schools and other administrators in his second year as a member of the KASA board of directors. Camron also serves on the executive policy committee, focusing on legislative advocacy and policy determinations.

Camron’s legislative advocacy efforts brought important results this year. After forming a coalition of leaders last year, legislation was drafted that would allow students in alternative education programs the opportunity to pursue a high school equivalency diploma. Camron championed HB 194, which has now been signed into law.

As principal of Owensboro Day Treatment — a school operating under the Department of Juvenile Justice — Camron has developed academic enhancements with a goal of allowing students to transition successfully to a track leading to graduation, as well as an increased pass rate on the GED.

Camron serves as a panelist for the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children (KECSAC) New Educators training program, working with other administrators to support members and future KECSAC school teachers, counselors, assistants, and administrators understand the significance of their roles in A-6 programs.
