Burns Middle School Nurse Michelle Jones was recently awarded the Lucille Ross Kentucky School Nurse of the Year Award. The award is presented to a school nurse in the commonwealth who provides a comprehensive school health program that identifies and meets the needs of the school community.
Along with offering health education to students, families and community members, the recipient must be involved in their own professional development and participate as an active member of the Kentucky School Nurse Association (KySNA).
“I am humbled and very honored to receive the School Nurse of the Year award,” said Jones. “I hope that I, along with our team, can continue to make a difference in the lives of our students.”
When nominated, colleagues described Jones as a dependable team member who develops programs to improve the lives of the students. The letters to the selection committee also noted that she possesses an enthusiasm for making a difference and a commitment to providing an environment of safety and wellness to the students.
“Michelle works diligently to care for the many health care needs of middle school students,” said Wendi Kozel, Daviess County Public Schools district health coordinator. “She is kind and compassionate. The students, staff and parents trust her to guide them through difficult situations and provide the care they need while at school.”
Aside from being a school nurse, she also manages the CPR training of the Daviess County Public Schools employees.
