Owensboro Community & Technical College will be hosting a variety of camps and activities next month. In addition to a STEAM camp and one for those interested in a healthcare career, there will also be a program for graduating high school seniors unsure of their future career path.

The STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7. The camp is for middle and high school students. Projects include training a robot to pick and place a 3-D printed object, creating and launching a rocket, and printmaking. The camp will be held at OCTC’s Downtown Campus (1501 Frederica Street) and the Main Campus (4800 New Hartford Road).

The Level Up Camp is scheduled for June 6-13. This free program is geared toward those who plan on attending OCTC as freshmen this fall, but may not be sure of their future career path. Campers will meet on Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and successful participants will earn a free college credit hour and become eligible for an OCTC scholarship of up to $3,000 for the fall semester. Students will also get to participate in a STEAM-focused behind-the-scenes tour of the Holiday World theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana.

The OCTC Healthcare Career Camp will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21-23. The academy will include hands-on activities with each of the allied health programs — radiography, nursing, medical assisting, surgical technology, and paramedicine. Guest speaker Delanor Manson will share her experiences as a woman of color in the allied health field, and a showcase event presented by the participants will wrap up the academy. This camp will be held at OCTC’s Main Campus at (4800 New Hartford Road).
