Hannah Thurman has joined the Daviess County Public Schools district as public information officer. She will begin her new responsibilities on April 4, replacing Lora Wimsatt, who is retiring after 20 years of service with DCPS.

“It is an honor to join the Daviess County Public Schools team and to serve the district’s students, families and staff in this capacity,” Thurman said. “As a proud graduate of DCPS, I look forward to being part of the continued tradition of preparing and supporting our community’s students for success.”

Thurman is currently serving as director of talent programs, communications and events for the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, where she is also the executive director of Leadership Owensboro. She joined the Chamber in January 2019 as events and communications coordinator. Since in October 2020, Thurman has also directed Leadership Owensboro, and she has coordinated the Chamber Young Professionals organization, providing opportunities for professionals age 40 and younger to network and educate themselves about important issues in the Greater Owensboro area.

“Losing Hannah Thurman is quite a loss for our Chamber staff, board, committees and membership,” said Candance Brake, president and CEO of the Chamber. “Hannah has a tireless work ethic and is selfless in all she does. She pours herself out in service to others and does so with a deep humility.”

At DCPS, Thurman will represent the district to the community and media by planning, organizing and implementing public information services for the district. She will also assist in the coordination and implementation of district goals.

“Hannah brings a strong background of experience and talent to this role,” said DCPS Superintendent Matt Robbins. “I am confident she will represent DCPS as a positive ambassador of our district’s Kids First mission of service to students, families and staff.”

Thurman earned a bachelor of arts degree in advertising in 2011 from Western Kentucky University, where she also earned a master of science degree in recreation and sport administration with an emphasis in media and branding in 2017. She is currently pursuing a doctor of education degree in educational leadership from WKU. She is a member of the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department Advisory Board, a position she has held since 2017.
