DCPS, OPS educators honored for Excellence in Teaching

Six local educators have been honored as recipients of the 2021 Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Representing Daviess County Public Schools are Nikki Knott, Burns Elementary School; Judy Trunnell, College View Middle School; and Julie Ford, Daviess County High School.

Representing Owensboro Public Schools are Susan Bratcher, Sutton Elementary School; Stephanie Luckett, Owensboro Middle School; and Stephanie Gray, Owensboro Innovation Academy

The ceremony was held virtually this year, honoring 205 teachers from 72 districts and/or private schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 

Knott, a preschool teacher, was recognized for her work in guiding a child’s first steps along the pathway of lifelong learning. 

Trunnell, a family and consumer science teacher, was noted for developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, even in a virtual learning environment. 

Ford, an English teacher, incorporates social/emotional learning in her classroom, nurturing a love for literacy that makes a difference that lasts a lifetime. 

Bratcher teaches kindergarten and first grade at Sutton, where she has worked since 2000.

Luckett is an ELA teacher. She began her career at the school after graduating from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1992 and has spent her entire career there with the exception of 1996-1999 she taught in Union, Kentucky. 

Gray teaches engineering for 9-12th grades where she was one of the founding teachers of the new school six years ago.
