Registration for preschool and kindergarten is open now through March 19 for students planning to attend Owensboro or Daviess County public schools for the 2021-22 academic year.
DCPS Preschool
All preschool applications will be processed online.
Preschool is available at all 12 DCPS elementary schools for children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 1 and whose families meet income guidelines; and children age 3 or 4 who are identified with a delay or disability. Preschool is offered in morning and afternoon sessions, Monday through Thursday each week. Head Start is offered to children who will be 3 years old on or before Aug. 1 and who meet Head Start eligibility requirements.
Free screenings are available to all DCPS families with preschool-age children to help determine if there are any educational concerns, learning delays or disabilities.
Fee-based preschool slots are available within DCPS elementary schools for children who do not qualify for free preschool.
The DCPS district provides free transportation. Breakfast and/or lunch are also available. For more information, parents may call 270-852-7000 or call their neighborhood elementary school.

OPS Preschool
Because both Hager and Seven Hills preschools are blended with Head Start, they are not able to accept online registrations.
Students of families living on the east side of Frederica Street will attend Seven Hills Preschool (270-686-6059), while students living on the west side of Frederica Street will attend Hager Preschool (270-686-1125).
Students must be either 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 1 to register. According to district officials, they are limited on how many 3-year-olds without a disability they can take.
Parents must call the school to schedule an appointment for an application. Certain items will be required to complete the application, such as: a copy of a certified birth certificate; proof of income; medical card, K-CHIP card or insurance card; a current immunization report; a school medical exam; a lead test; a vision exam from a licensed professional; and a dental exam.
Breakfast, lunch and a snack are included at no cost. Transportation is provided for students leaving further than 1 mile from the school.
OPS Kindergarten
Students must be either 5 years old by Aug. 1 to register. Families enrolling their child in kindergarten must call the student’s school to learn more about registration and to schedule an appointment. Each family has a list of documents that must be turned in to complete the registration.
Students will attend the school nearest their home. If families are not sure which school that is, they can call the OPS central office at 270-686-1000.
Meals are included at no cost. Transportation is provided for students leaving further than 1 mile from the school.
