Every year, Inspiring Teens Magazine nominates students across the country for its Inspiring Teens Artist of the Year Awards. There are 19 different categories in which a teen can be nominated, this year, Daviess County High School senior Abigail Roby was nominated in the leadership category.

Roby has been involved with the DCHS Navy Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) for four years and is currently the highest ranking cadet this year.

“The award is a big deal to know that I have made an impact on people’s life around me,” Roby said.

Roby was nominated by friend Samantha Tooley and said not only is being nominated an honor, but winning this award would be great to put on her college application.

“I feel like people should vote for me because it’s not very often in Owensboro, Ky., that you hear about an NJROTC student, especially one who is female,” she said. ”I want to have held this standard for my peers.”

If Roby receives at least 50 votes she will be given a free pass to INSPIRE on Jan. 26 and a free T-shirt. For 100 votes, she’ll become a scholarship contender and get awarded the 500 Club recognition on the Inspiring Teens website and at the awards show. If she receives 200 votes, she’ll be recognized with Icon Status and will get crowned at the awards show.

It costs $5 to vote and all the proceeds go to Shriners Hospital for Children. To read Roby’s award bio click here and to vote for Roby, click here. Voting closes at midnight on Monday.
