The Daviess County Board of Education announced Tuesday, Oct. 2 that, starting this Friday, Oct. 5, any military veteran or active-duty military member (showing military id.) will be honored with free access to all high school sporting events hosted by Daviess County Public Schools. Free admission to veterans and active servicemen/women is also available at DCPS middle and elementary school games and events.
Superintendent Matt Robbins said the new practice was being implemented due in part to the idea of board member Dale Stewart and retired Apollo High School teacher, Sondra Jones.

“This is an example of how a great suggestion starts out as a thought, then it becomes a suggestion, and then it becomes an action,” said Robbins. “I’m really pleased that we’re able to do that.”
The school board said they will begin hanging signs up at sporting events and using social media to make sure people are aware of the new implementation.
Stewart said he was thrilled with the new idea, and gave credit to the board for making it happen.
“You guys made it happen,” Stewart said. “On behalf of the entire board, thank you.”
Note: Regarding athletic events, this offer is limited to regular season DCPS home games. Tournaments and playoffs are exempted, as passes to those events are managed by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
