Owensboro High School will host “Snacks with Characters” from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on February 18, though reservations should be made by Wednesday. The fundraiser offers adults and children alike an opportunity to spend time with their favorite characters from famous fairy tales, cartoons, and superhero movies.
This is the fourth year for the event, which the theatre department hosts. They will use the funds from this year to take students to the International Thespian Festival this summer. The Chapter Select Showcase selected Owensboro High School’s production of Including Shooter to represent Kentucky at the festival.
“We are thrilled to be awarded this honor, but of course, there is a cost involved,” said theatre teacher Carolyn Greer. “We are doing all we can to raise the needed funds to get the 17 cast and crew members to the festival.”
Children attending the Snacks with Characters fundraiser will receive autograph booklets, snacks, goodie bags, crafts, and access to a DIY photo booth and face painting. The cost to attend is $12 for children and $8 for adults, and the department requests that attendees make reservations.
“It will be a fun-filled event for each child and their family,” Greer said. “The guests will not only get their autographs but have the opportunity to talk with them, dance with them, and even make crafts with the characters. We will have stations for face painting, temporary tattoos, crafts, and a photo wall.”
Guests will also receive cupcakes, popcorn, and lemonade. The deadline to reserve a spot is February 15. Email [email protected] to acquire a reservation link.
“We want to give families the opportunity to bring their children to an event that didn’t just focus on one story or character,” she said. “Hopefully, our event will have characters to make everyone in the family smile.”
The theatre department is planning other fundraisers for the public, including a Cabaret and Silent Auction on March 17.
