A family of six was recently able to leave a negative living situation and find a new home, but had absolutely no furniture. After a recommendation from a local shelter, the Alma Randolph Charitable Foundation enhanced the family’s life by providing furniture and appliances throughout the home. The Foundation has now impacted 61 homes over the last 7 years.

The family now has six bedroom sets, living room furniture, a dining set, and washing and drying equipment. Community partners included American Freight, Holiday Inn Downtown Riverfront, First Baptist Church, Domino’s Pizza.

Owensboro Times has chosen not to disclose the family’s identity or further details about the previous living situation. The mother said that upon walking into the home with her children she felt peace.

“I’m overjoyed and I’m just really, really shocked and I don’t know what words to use. I’m just so blessed,” she said.

For her, home means a place to have peace, feel love and make memories. And she is confident that in this home they will have many memories and much more peace.

“This is going to be the start of a new journey in my life. We’ll be starting here in this so this is awesome,” she said.

Now, she said, she’s excited to soak in their new space and the happiness that will soon follow.

The Foundation’s Hands Up To Succeed (HUTS) program was established in 2016 to enhance the living conditions of deserving, disadvantaged families. Founder Alma Randolph always stresses that it’s truly a “hand up” not a “handout” because there is a selection process.
