TTMA and United Way of the Ohio Valley have teamed up once again for the second annual Hunger & Housing Food and Fund Drive Competition. All food and funds collected will go to feed low-income home-bound seniors and benefit agencies who provide rent and utility assistance to our community. The event begins March 14 and ends on March 28.
In 2020, Kentucky was named No. 1 in the country for food insecurity. After receiving this news, United Way pivoted and started looking for new ways to help keep the community fed.
“Not only did we develop a regional hunger relief steering committee but we also started partnering with different entities who had the same mission in mind: Feeding Hungry People,” said Blaine Mathew, Manager of Digital Communications and Innovation for United Way of the Ohio Valley. “This is where our partnership with TTMA began. Their team and top leadership recognized the need and reached out to UWOV to partner and continue the fight against hunger while also helping keep people housed amid a pandemic.”
Last year, they raised more than $6,500 and 2,500 food items which were delivered directly to seniors unable to leave their homes.
“We hope to bring more companies on board this year and make an even bigger impact,” Mathew said. “Imagine if your parents or grandparents were not able to get to the store or afford food and silently suffered alone.”
Several groups have already joined the efforts and signed up to compete against the reigning champs, Toyotetsu Mid-America. Currently competing are TTMA, Daramic, Disaster Team, Domtar-Owensboro, Hunter Douglas, Target and The Network.
Anyone who would like to donate food can visit the TTMA building at 3100 Airpark Drive.
