The Owensboro Fire Department has announced the recipients of their 2021 Awards. The honors are determined by a vote of the members of their department.

The winners are as follows:

  • Rookie of the Year: Colby Smith
  • Firefighter of the Year: Jordan Thomas
  • EMS Responder of the Year: Advanced EMT Class of 2021 (includes Dakota Bratcher, Ted Johnston, Jeremy Mahoney, Jared Peacock, Cody Ramburger, and Shannon Raymer)
  • Engineer of the Year: Matt Cissell(now promoted to Lieutenant)
  • Officer of the Year: Captain Trey Davidson

Nominations and voting for these awards are open to all members of the department.

“Every member of the department put forth a very high level of quality emergency response to our community, but it is with pleasure that we are able to single out these performers for recognition,” OFD officials wrote in their announcement of the winners.

In a previous social media post by the City of Owensboro, Thomas described the work culture at the OFD as “one big family.” Thomas has been with the OFD family for almost 7 years.

“If you are contemplating firefighting as a career, I would reach out to your local volunteer fire station and see if it is for you,” Thomas said. “You can also come by an Owensboro Fire Station and we will gladly walk you around and talk to you about daily life here.”
