The Owensboro Family YMCA has announced John Alexander as the new president and CEO of the facility.

According to the social media announcement, Alexander has 18 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and was serving as the resource director for YMCA of the USA for the last six years. Prior to his time with the YMCA of the USA, Alexander led the Danville, Ill. Family YMCA for 12 years as CEO.

“We are excited for the future, and for the fantastic leadership John will provide for the Owensboro YMCA for years to come,” the post read.

Owensboro YMCA’s interim CEO Tony Sigmon took a position out of state in April. Ed Wallace, former CEO of the Madisonville YMCA, accepted the interim position to oversee the Owensboro locations until a permanent CEO could be found.

Alexander will three-phase renovation project the YMCA unveiled in April at their Young Leaders luncheon. Projects include a new lobby, converting nearly 2,600 square feet of space into performance rooms and adding an outdoor exercise space. Officials said they will close the Athenian by the beginning of 2020 as a part of renovating the Kentucky Parkway Campus. Long-term plans are also in place to establish an outdoor aquatics center at the renovated facility.
