Families looking for an early Halloween celebration are invited to Owensboro Christian Church’s “Light Up the Night” on Sunday.

According to Kegan DeWitt, elementary pastor at the church, visitors can expect a candy car cruise-in, inflatables with bumper cars and mechanical bull, food trucks, carnival games and a DJ. The first 200 kids will get a Halloween-themed prize bucket.

The event will be held rain or shine. Rain will force the church to move everything except the car show inside.

“We do ‘Light Up the Night’ to provide a fun, free, family friendly activity for families in our community,” DeWitt said.

According to DeWitt, nearly 2,000 people have attended the event in years past.

“We get to showcase our church as a loving servant-hearted group of people,” Dewitt said of the community outreach.

A crowd that large takes a lot people to help ensure the event runs smoothly. DeWitt said Owensboro Christian has 160 volunteers lined up to serve.

“We had donations of candy, hay bales, pumpkins and tons of prizes to fill our 200 prize buckets,” DeWitt said.

‘Light Up the NIght’ will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Owensboro Christian Church parking lot.
