Owensboro native Bracken Darrell has resigned as President and CEO of Logitech International. In an announcement Tuesday, Logitech said Darrell was “departing the company to pursue another opportunity.”
Darrell spent 11 years with Logitech, the last 10 as CEO.
“After nearly a decade of consistent growth and building market leadership across multiple categories, I feel this is a good point to hand over leadership,” Darrell said in a release.
Logitech’s chairperson of the board Wendy Becker said in the release, “We thank Bracken for his leadership during an exciting era of transformation at Logitech. Over his 10 years as CEO, Bracken oversaw a period of consistent growth and helped to transform Logitech into an award-winning design company known for its unparalleled product innovation. We wish him well in the future and look forward to identifying his successor.”
Logitech said in a release that Darrell’s resignation as president, CEO, and member of Logitech’s board of directors is effective immediately, but he will remain with the company over the coming month to help with the transition. Board member Guy Gecht will serve as interim CEO while a global search of internal and external candidates is conducted.
Darrell also addressed his resignation in a LinkedIn post, largely addressing the growth Logitech experienced over the last decade. He said the company “expanded our tiny gaming business from $40 million to industry leadership well over $1 (billion)” and “Transformed a tired, declining desktop business to over $2 billion and a strong growth machine.”
“While I am very excited about what this team of current and past employees and board members has accomplished, I’m even more excited about Logitech’s future. It’s going to be an amazing adventure at Logitech in the years ahead, and I will be a customer, investor, and raving fan,” Darrell wrote.
Darrell also touted the companies awards won under his tenure, including being “named to the prestigious SMI (an index of the top companies on the Swiss stock exchange).” Logitech has received numerous awards, including more than 200 design awards over the past three years from the likes of iF Design, Red Dot and Fast Company, and numerous sustainability awards.
Darrell himself has been named Swiss CEO of the Year by Obermatt three times in the past 4 years and received the 2022 Edison Achievement Award.
Darrell has not yet announced what his future holds.
“I’ll soon be off on new adventures … but tonight I’m going to play basketball,” Darrell said in the post.
Darrell has nearly 30 years of experience in product, people, and brand management through design. He has worked around the world on iconic brands like Old Spice, Gillette and Braun, for which he was president. He has worked at P&G, Arthur Anderson, PepsiCo, GE and Whirlpool.
Since 2018, Bracken has been on the board of Dean Advisors of the Harvard Business School and the Board of Directors of Life Biosciences. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in English from Hendrix College in Arkansas.
Last week, Darrell was in Owensboro to speak at the inaugural Greater Owensboro Leadership Summit.
