Lisa Aull has closed her downtown clothing store Lil Bit Sassy, effective immediately, saying other obligations need her attention. Aull opened the store 7 years ago and said she’s thankful for the continued support along the way.

Aull initially made the announcement Tuesday morning on the Lil Bit Sassy Facebook page. She spoke to Owensboro Times about the decision via a phone call a short time later.

“With my family and health obligations, I am unable to shop and stock my store appropriately like I have done for the past 7 years,” Aull said. “So I feel it’s time to ‘retire’ it and focus my attention on my family and health.”

Aull said she was gone from the store from October through February.

“When I walked back in the store in February, I looked around and I was tired of all the merchandise. … I had a blowout sale and people bought almost everything in my store,” Aull said.

Aull donated the rest of her inventory to My Sister’s Keeper at that time.

She tried to find a purchasing agent that could go to markets to replenish the story, but that never worked out. Aull ultimately decided she had a different path to follow.

“I’ve thought about it and thought about it and prayed about it, and God has shifted me to (focus on other obligations),” she said.

Aull also expressed her thanks for her employees, though she calls them a team because of how they work together and how close they are. She said no one is being let go, as they will be helping her personally and at her dance store.

Aull said she plans to sell the building, located at 125 West 2nd Street.

She noted that her other business, Alisa Nicole Dancewear, will remain open. She said she’s able to keep it open because vendors come to the store to stock it, rather than her or an agent having to go to market. It’s also only open three days a week currently, though hours could extend if the demand grows.
