The Boston Terrier Club of America will host its 130th National Specialty event April 28 through May 2 at the Owensboro Convention Center, bringing with it dozens of top-tier dogs and hundreds of visitors from across the country and beyond.

Titled “Run for the Rosettes,” the prestigious event will feature a variety of competitions, including Futurity, Sweepstakes, Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Performance, and the coveted Boston Terrier of the Year showcase.

The event will also include obedience and rally trials, a junior showmanship competition, puppy and veteran sweepstakes, a beginner puppy competition, and participation in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series.

Club President Dominic Koon said the National Specialty is the premier annual event for Boston Terriers, typically attracting entries from more than 20 states and multiple countries including England, Canada, and Australia.

“The Boston Terrier Club of America Nationals draws nearly 200 dogs in conformation alone,” Koon said.

Mark Calitri, president of Visit Owensboro, said “Hosting this national event reinforces Owensboro’s position as a premier destination for major competitions. Boston Terrier owners from across the U.S. will experience our top-tier facilities, welcoming community, and vibrant riverfront.”

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson said he’s proud to welcome the event and the Boston Terrier Club of America to the city.

“The visitors will enjoy our hospitality, our beautiful riverfront, and everything that makes this community special,” Watson said.

Daviess County Judge-Executive Charlie Castlen echoed that excitement, saying the event is an opportunity to highlight everything the region has to offer.

“Daviess County is known for world-class hospitality with a unique rural and urban charm,” Castlen said. “From our parks, hotels, and event spaces to our restaurants, museums, and attractions — indeed our very citizens — my hope is that the Boston Terrier Club will find that as Daviess County embraces their event, it feels like home.”

Founded in 1891, the Boston Terrier Club of America was one of the nation’s first dog breed organizations and today has more than 500 members worldwide. The club encourages quality breeding of purebred Boston Terriers and aims to promote the breed’s natural abilities across a wide range of disciplines.
