The Men’s Mass Community Choir will host its Fifth Saturday Men’s Breakfast at 9 a.m. on March 29, at Settle Memorial’s Renewal and Outreach Center, located at the corner of 4th and Daviess streets. The breakfast is open to men from the choir and other area faith communities and offers free food, fellowship, a brief program, and singing.

The event comes just one day before the choir kicks off its 20th annual celebration concerts. The first performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. on March 30 at Zion Baptist Church, 2311 West Ninth Street. An encore concert will follow at 3 p.m. on April 13 at First Christian Church, at the corner of 7th Street and J.R. Miller Boulevard.

“This year’s programs are being held in memory of our longtime leader, Larry ‘Chick’ Owen, who died late last year,” said choir president Michael Johnson. “Chick had big plans for this year’s 20th celebration, and we are working to carry them out in his honor. Of course, continuing to have the open Fifth Saturday breakfasts is amongst those activities.”

Johnson added that Settle Memorial has stepped in to sponsor this spring’s breakfast.

The choir is led this year by Titus Chapman and features special guest singer Alma Randolph Crump. The group includes 28 singers representing more than a dozen local churches. Musicians backing the choir include Alison McFarland and Rev. DeMarcus Curry on keyboards, Art Ealum on bass guitar, and Jehvion Thames on drums.

“This year’s anniversary concert will feature many of the favorite songs performed in past years, along with a couple of new ones,” Chapman said.
