Mary Eagleson and her husband, Jacob, have transformed a personal quest for natural skincare into a successful business with the launch of Bourbon Bath Company. The inspiration stemmed from their daughter’s sensitive skin and frequent eczema flare-ups.
“We were giving her oatmeal baths and scrutinizing the products we used,” Mary said. “That’s when we decided to make our own soap.”
The couple’s venture began in August 2024 with their first batch of soap. Despite initial challenges, they refined their formula and officially introduced Bourbon Bath Company in November 2024. Their debut at a local holiday craft fair was met with overwhelming success, nearly selling out their entire stock and receiving custom orders.
Jacob’s green thumb added a unique element to their products.
“We have a big garden, and my husband was growing loofahs,” Mary said. “We decided to incorporate them into our soap business.”
The loofahs, which resemble long cucumbers, are dried and used in some of their soap bars, as well as sold individually.
Bourbon Bath Company specializes in cold-process soaps, a method that combines lye and various fats, resulting in a product free from preservatives.
“Most of our bars have maybe five ingredients,” Mary noted, emphasizing the simplicity and natural composition of their soaps.
The name, Bourbon Bath Company, reflects the couple’s Southern roots and love for bourbon. While their soaps don’t currently contain bourbon, they’re exploring the possibility of a bourbon-scented product.
The company also makes bath bombs and shower steamers and plans to expand to offer shampoo bars.
Looking ahead, the Eaglesons plan to participate in the local Farmers’ Market this summer and continue introducing new products. They’ve been offering “Soaps of the Month,” with recent selections like “Black Velvet,” “Coco,” and “Love Potion.”
