United Way of the Ohio Valley is celebrating United Way Worldwide’s annual 211 Day by highlighting the free, confidential resource that connects residents with critical services. Available 24/7 year-round, 211 assists people in need by linking them to food, housing, healthcare, and other essential support. The service operates nationwide and is accessible by call or text.

“Every day, 211 helps individuals and families navigate life’s challenges,” said Vikki Embry, United Way of the Ohio Valley’s director of community impact and investment. “It’s an important resource for our community, ensuring people can find help when they need it most.”

Embry shared a recent example of how 211 made a difference in Daviess County. An elderly woman, recovering from surgery and without family support, called 211 because she was out of food and unable to afford delivery. Her call, routed to the 211 Call Center in Lexington, connected her with a specialist who realized that food pantries were closed for the evening. The operator then contacted the local Salvation Army, which arranged for food to be delivered to her home. Salvation Army staff also checked to see if she had any medical needs.

“This is just one example of how 211 specialists go the extra mile to ensure people receive the help they need,” Embry said.

United Way of the Ohio Valley serves a six-county region, offering access to 211 services for local residents. Businesses or service providers interested in marketing materials about 211 can contact Embry at (270) 684-0668, Ext. 25.

To access 211, call or text the number and enter your ZIP code to be connected to available resources.
