Renowned artist Aaron Kizer will host a limited-capacity, immersive art show titled “I Am Drugs” in Owensboro this May. The event is inspired by a Salvador Dalí quote, and Kizer said it will feature a surrealist experience blending art, performance, and atmosphere for a one-of-a-kind evening.

The show is scheduled for May 2 at the Owensboro Convention Center.

The title comes from a famous statement by Dalí, who once responded to questions about drug use influencing his work by saying, “I don’t do drugs. I am drugs.” Kizer said the quote resonated with him due to his own artistic journey and intense creative drive.

“I’ve always taken to that quote because I don’t drink or do drugs. I’ve just felt like I’m messed up enough without it,” Kizer said. “Part of the inspiration is also hoping people might misinterpret it visually, adding layers to the show’s design.”

The immersive experience begins from the moment tickets are purchased. Each ticket arrives as a mock prescription, labeled with the show date and venue. Upon check-in, where a mock pharmacy will serve as the entrance, Kizer said guests will enter a surrealist dream world designed to evoke the feeling of stepping out of reality.

“I want people to feel like they aren’t in Owensboro for a couple of hours,” he said. “I want them to step into something that feels completely different.”

The event is limited to 350 attendees to maintain an intimate and immersive atmosphere. General admission tickets are $40. VIP tickets, priced at $100, include a limited-edition print, a commemorative T-shirt, and exclusive access to special artwork. Kizer said only a few VIP tickets remain available.

He added that limiting the crowd size allows for a more personal and engaging experience while keeping the show financially sustainable.

“It’s really difficult to create this level of immersion for 2,000 people,” he said. “By keeping it smaller, we can focus more on the experience itself.”

Tickets for “I Am Drugs” can be purchased at aaronkizer.com.
