The 45th Annual Farm City Breakfast, a celebration of Daviess County’s agricultural economy and its partnership with the business community, is set for February 22 and will feature Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell as the keynote speaker.

The event will take place in the cafeteria at Daviess County High School beginning at 7:30 a.m. It is presented by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Daviess County Farm Bureau.

The program will also include the presentation of the Humanitarian Award, which recognizes an outstanding leader whose life of service has improved the well-being of citizens throughout Owensboro and Daviess County. Last year’s award was given to Ina Bratcher.

“The Farm City Breakfast is a longstanding tradition, and the Chamber is proud to partner with Daviess County Farm Bureau each year to celebrate the deep connection between agriculture and our local economy,” said Candance Castlen Brake, president and CEO of GO Chamber. “Farming touches all our lives. Together, we weave a vibrant tapestry where every individual plays a vital role in the shared success between the agriculture and business community.”

State Rep. Suzanne Miles emphasized the event’s role in bridging the gap between urban and rural residents. She noted that events like this create opportunities for meaningful interactions between those who work in agriculture and those in other industries.

“Farm City Breakfast is important to connect the city folks and the country folks. The more relationships developed help facilitate the greater good for a community,” Miles said.

She added that rural residents benefit from the chance to visit with their neighbors, while urban attendees gain a deeper appreciation for the people behind the local agricultural industry.

“For the country folks, it’s an opportunity to visit with your neighbors, and the city folks get a chance to meet some people that normally don’t make it out to Chamber member events,” Miles said. “When we understand where everyone is from and their background, it really helps each other understand where people want to go.”

Beyond building relationships, Miles highlighted the broader significance of the event in recognizing agriculture’s contributions to the local economy.

“It’s a great opportunity to highlight the value of agriculture to our community and pay tribute and appreciation to an industry that typically asks for no accolades or awards for doing the right thing – feeding the world one kernel at a time,” Miles said.

Sponsorship opportunities and tickets for the event are available. The deadline to sponsor is February 19. Those interested in sponsoring can email [email protected]. More information, including sponsorship forms and registration, can be found on the GO Chamber website.
