The Evansville Thunderbolts are making their way to Owensboro for a special fan event, giving local supporters an opportunity to meet the team and enjoy a fun skating session this Sunday.
The “Skate with the Bolts” event is set for March 2 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Edge Ice Center, located at 1400 Hickman Avenue in Owensboro. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m., and the skate session will take place from 1-3:30 p.m. Admission is $7 per person and includes skate rental.
Tina Lynch, recreation facilities manager for Owensboro Parks and Recreation, said the event is meant to give back to Owensboro residents who have supported the Thunderbolts over the years but may not always be able to attend games in Evansville.
“The Bolts have a rather large following of fans here in Owensboro, but a lot of the time, they cannot make it to any events that happen during the week due to the distance,” Lynch said. “The inspiration behind this event is giving back to the Owensboro people who have supported them all these years. This is their first event in Owensboro, and they are really excited to meet all the fans and hopefully make this an annual event.”
Lynch said the event also aims to grow the Thunderbolts fan base in Owensboro and promote hockey throughout the tri-state area.
“We are hoping to create lifelong memories, Thunderbolts fans, and even inspire future hockey players,” Lynch said.
In addition to the event, Lynch encouraged those interested in playing hockey to sign up for the Owensboro Youth Hockey Association’s summer league.
