UniFirst Corporation has filed an application with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet to expand its Owensboro industrial facility.

The company plans to add a building at its existing site, located at 2801 UniFirst Drive, at the northwest corner of Carter Road and UniFirst Drive.

According to the application, the project will include parking, loading areas, utility upgrades, and other site improvements.

According to the UniFirst website, the Owensboro facility has been a part of the company’s operations since it opened in 1998. Initially designed to ship approximately seven million garments annually, the center has significantly expanded over the years. By 2018, it was shipping 18 million garments annually, supported by advanced automation and next-generation robotics. The facility has also undergone multiple expansions, including an addition of 40,000 square feet, and now employs over 445 team partners.

Claude Bacon, vice president and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation, confirmed that further details about the latest project are forthcoming.

“Details on a project are being coordinated now and will soon be available,” Bacon said.

UniFirst representatives could not be reached Friday for comment.

UniFirst Corporation is headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, and provides uniform and workplace services to businesses across a variety of industries.
