State Rep. DJ Johnson of Owensboro has been named chair of the Kentucky House Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.

The committee handles legislation related to proposed amendments to the Kentucky Constitution, state and local elections, candidate qualifications, and election finance.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to aid in our efforts to ensure the efficiency and security of our elections, proposed changes to our state constitution, and the relationships between our government agencies,” Johnson said. “As Chairman, I understand the weight of my duties and the responsibility that I as well as every member of the committee have to ensure that the values of our democracy are protected and upheld across the commonwealth.”

House Speaker David Osborne said he is confident that Johnson lead the committee well.

“Elections are the very foundation which our government is built on, and the legislature has moved to ensure that voters can be confident that election security remains a priority. I look forward to seeing the direction this committee takes during the legislative session,” he said.

Johnson will also serve as a member of the Natural Resources and Energy, Public Pension Oversight Board, State Government, and Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection committees.

The 2025 Regular Session will convene January 7, with legislators meeting for 30 legislative days before adjourning by March 29.
