The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame is gearing up for an ambitious year in 2025, introducing new educational and outreach initiatives aimed at bringing music to diverse audiences. One of the hallmark programs launching this year is “Bedside Bluegrass,” which will bring live bluegrass music to patients in hospitals, those in hospice care, individuals who are homebound, and more.

Randy Lanham, the Hall of Fame’s education director, said the program has been a long-time dream.

“We have 10 small groups lined up that are willing to visit patients and provide a few songs to lift their spirits,” Lanham said. “It’s not about putting on a full show, but sharing the joy of music to brighten someone’s day.”

In addition to “Bedside Bluegrass,” the Hall of Fame is also focusing on creating instructional videos for outreach initiatives. Lanham said these videos will provide tips for musicians and volunteers who wish to play in nursing homes or other community settings. The guides will include advice on song selection, how to play along with pre-recorded tracks, and ways to engage residents effectively.

“We want to show people that they don’t need to be professionals to make an impact,” Lanham said. “Even knowing a few chords or playing along to a track can bring a lot of joy to nursing home residents.”

The museum is also developing programs for individuals with special needs. Lanham said these will incorporate live bluegrass tracks and percussion instruments to create an inclusive and interactive experience. According to Lanham, the activities will focus on movement and coordination, offering participants a chance to feel like part of a band.

Other plans for the upcoming year include expanding music tutoring opportunities and creating resources for program directors and volunteers. The organization hopes these initiatives will inspire more people to share their musical talents with others.

“We’re excited to see what 2025 will bring,” Lanham said. “Our goal is to continue growing our community, sharing music, and making a difference in people’s lives.”
